Products Description
17-7 PH (AISI 631) Stainless Steel Round Bar Overview
The 17-7 PH stainless steel round bar is a chromium-nickel-aluminum precipitation hardening stainless steel known for its high strength, hardness, and moderate corrosion resistance up to 600°F (316°C). This material offers excellent machinability and weldability, making it easy to fabricate into various components. Its precipitation hardening capability allows for heat treatment to achieve different levels of strength and hardness, making it a versatile choice for demanding applications.
Key Features
High Strength and Hardness: Achievable through precipitation hardening.
Moderate Corrosion Resistance: Comparable to Type 304 stainless steel.
Excellent Formability: Can be easily formed in the austenitic condition.
Minimal Distortion During Heat Treatment: Ensures dimensional stability.
Fatigue Resistance: Ideal for high-stress applications.
Applications
The 17-7 PH stainless steel round bar is widely used in industries requiring high performance and reliability. Common applications include:
Springs
Washers
Eyelets
Fittings
Fasteners
Aerospace Components
Chemical Processing Equipment
Heat Treatment Process
The heat treatment process for 17-7 PH stainless steel typically involves the following steps:
Conditioning: Austenite conditioning.
Cooling: Transformation of austenite into martensite.
Precipitation Hardening: Achieves Condition TH 1050 or RH 950.
Optional Cold Reduction: For Condition A material, cold reduction at the mill converts it to Condition C. After fabrication, a single low-temperature heat treatment achieves Condition CH 900.
